Principle: DEVELOPMENT OF WORKERS TO THEIR GREATEST EFFICIENCY AND PROSPERITY

The well being of any organization depends upon the well being of the workers because workers are the key elements of any organization. Workers well being here indicates their efficiency. Hence, through this scientific principle Taylor emphasized on the need of developing each and every individual in the organization to his / her greatest efficiency through proper training. Also, the workers should be selected in a scientific manner and not merely by will, relation or personal preferences of the superiors. For such purpose Taylor has introduced various techniques which should be followed in an organization in order to standardize the all-round performance.

According to Taylor, workers should be selected through proper selection channels in a just and fair manner, thereafter they should be assigned jobs according to their qualifications. Once the jobs are assigned it is effortless to find out the missing skills in the accountable worker. This identification of missing skill, thus is helpful in providing the required and suitable training.  For better performance workers should be trained timely and on continuous basis in order to keep them updated with the technological and other changes.

Further, Taylor has emphasized on imparting training to workers after conducting Fatigue Study, Time Study, Motion Study and Method Study. These studies help to identify the real problem area for the inefficiency in worker so that proper training can be provided.

Positive Impacts of This Principle:
1.      Satisfied workers;
2.      Increased efficiency;
3.      Better coordination and performance;
4.      Standardized and quality production; and
5.      Minimum wastage time, material and energy.

Negative Impacts of This Principle:
1.      Problems in selecting workers for training; and

2.      Labour turnover in future once they are optimally skilled and trained.
